About the Project

Self Help is an organisation dedicated to providing employment for intellectually handicapped people. CMK undertook a major redesign of their Youngtown site to incorporate their clothing outlet, Encore Clothing and renovate the administration and operational arms. The design allowed our client to centralise their operations to one site and improve facilities for both staff and employees, and customers. A curvaceous entry and corridor draw you to the administration entrance, where a complete internal makeover transformed the old building into a new contemporary corporate space, complete with a new training/boardroom.

We enlarged the staff lunch area, built a new canteen kitchen and provided more direct access by opening up the old masonry walls to the newly constructed alfresco area. The entire clothing operational working area was upgraded and enlarged to accommodate an increasing number of staff and an increase in clothing donations. Encore Clothing tee's of the existing building to form a shopfront to Hobart Road and a new identity to operations.

To accomplish the transformation, the old bricks were rendered over to provide a more cohesive and consistent arrangement of materials and finishes with the new, sealed car park and landscaping to complete the external facelift.
