Project:             New gymnasium, classrooms and refurbishments

Location:           Our Lady of Lourdes, Devonport - Tasmania

Contractor:        VOS Constructions - Devonport

Located in the heart of Devonport along the north coast of Tasmania, Our Lady of Lourdes is a small Catholic Primary School.  cmk was initially approached to undertake modifications to their Steele St. car park.  Following this work, we undertook a master plan to redevelop the entire campus, upgrading and improving pedestrian traffic in and around the school campus and rearranging the academic hub into a more succinct layout to improve the educational outcome for students.  Additional learning facilities were also added under the Building Education Revolution (BER) initiative as funding became available to implement the essence of the master plan.

In order to maintain every day school activities during the construction phase, we split the works into a three main phases including:

• a new gymnasium and music facility

• (3) new classrooms and three (3) refurbished classrooms with integrated shared breakout spaces

• and a new entry and library resource centre

The central design ideas where formed around primary elements, forms and colours, making for a fun and enjoyable environment for students to learn in.  Carefully considered connections back to the original school buildings where incorporated into the final design fabric.
