About the Project

Situated within the Windsor Park precinct, the Windsor Sound Box sits opposite the community centre and is surrounded by the many sporting fields and walking tracks that make up the precinct. With the riverside community in mind, West Tamar Council approached CMK with a simple brief to design a sound shell that could not just be used for performances but double as a covered space for a myriad of community activities.

Through the planning stage, it became evident a traditional sound shell design would exceed the budget allowance, so it was back to the drawing board to try and think outside the box and reduce the cost. The design ended up as just that, a concept of a simple box; just like opening the lid to a music box, the sound box opens its sides, revealing a space within where music and performances can be viewed.
